Gov.-Elect Dan Malloy on Wednesday tapped State Sen. Donald DeFronzo, who co-chairs the transportation committee, to lead the state’s Department of Administrative Services (DAS).
DeFronzo, a four-term Democrat from New Britain, will complete his current term as a state senator, but will resign his member-elect status.
In his his new role as commissioner of DAS, DeFronzo will be charged with driving efficiencies within the executive branch.
“There’s no doubt that we’ll face a great number of challenges at DAS as we seek to downsize state government in a smart, strategic way, cut state spending and restructure state government to provide services at substantially lower cost to taxpayers,” said DeFronzo, who at one time served as the mayor of New Britain.
