Malloy reappoints CT veterans commissioner

Gov.-elect Dan Malloy is reappointing Linda Schwartz as Connecticut’s veterans affairs commissioner, a job she’s held for more than seven years, The Associated Press reports.

Malloy said Monday that Schwartz’s “dedication to improving the lives of Connecticut’s veterans is admirable to say the least” and that he looks forward to working with her. Malloy, a Democrat, is set to take office on Wednesday.

Schwartz, a nurse and member of the Air Force who served on active duty and as a reservist, was first appointed by Republican former Gov. John G. Rowland. She was later reappointed by Gov. M. Jodi Rell, who is retiring.

Schwartz says that her commitment to helping the state’s veterans transcends politics and that she’s pleased it has also transcended administrations.
