Malloy picks Espinosa for appellate court

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he has nominated Superior Court Judge Carmen Espinosa for Connecticut’s Appellate Court.

Espinosa, an ex-FBI agent who is the state’s first Hispanic  judge, will take the place of Judge Lubbie Harper Jr. once his nomination to the Supreme Court is confirmed.

“Judge Espinosa is a strong, fair and well-respected member of the Superior Court, ” Malloy said. ” … Her long history of commitment to serving the community are truly outstanding.”

Espinosa she has served three terms since 1992.

She also is a former assistant U.S. attorney.

She graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1971 and earned her master’s in Hispanic Studies from Brown University, and her law degree from George Washington University.
