Malloy musters CT’s snowplow retirees

The governor has waived the state’s temporary worker provisions to allow retired operators of snow-clearing equipment and other emergency services to be rehired to help with any winter snarl.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy issued an executive order Thursday suspending parts of a the temporary work program meant to prevent state workers from lingering on the payroll once they have retired.

The order authorizes the state transportation commissioner to suspend work program limitations as he deems necessary to maintain adequate force of snowplow drivers, operators of road-salting and sanding equipment, and other emergency services.

The order expires in April.

Current provisions don’t allow the state to rehire a retiree for more than 120 calendar days or for four years once they retire.
