Malloy appoints W. Hfd. mayor’s brother to new cabinet position

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has appointed Jonathan Slifka as his liaison to the disability community, a newly created position, his office announced.

Slifka, brother of West Hartford Mayor Scott Slifka, will communicate with disabled residents in order to provide policy and other recommendations to the state government, Malloy said.

Slifka was born with spina bifida and is unable to walk.

He most recent worked at Goodwin College’s admissions department. He is also a commissioner on the West Hartford Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities, a member of the Miracle League of Connecticut’s board of directors, and a coach at Ivan Lendl Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp.

The position will fall under the state Department of Rehabilitation Services.

He starts work Friday.
