Malloy appoints two to ed board

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has appointed Erin Benham and Maria Mojica to the State Board of Education, his office announced.

Benham, who is president of the Meriden Federation of Teachers, taught for 35 years in Meriden public schools and is currently a literacy teacher at Lincoln Middle School.

Mojica is an independent consultant who advises nonprofits. She was previously a vice president with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and an executive at the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund in Hamden.

The state board establishes academic standards and sets policy for 166 Connecticut school districts.
