The former West Hartford deputy mayor, Owen P. Eagan, was appointed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Tuesday to serve as chairman of the Freedom of Information Commission.
Eagan works as a general practice lawyer with the law firm of Eagan, Donohue, Van Dyke & Falsey. He has previous experience with FOIC, first appointed by Governor M. Jodi Rell in 2009 to be a commissioner.
The FOIC is the state body accountable for enforcing provisions of the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, giving citizens access to the records and meetings of public agencies. It analyzes complaints from citizens who have been denied access to records, and forms a decision based on the FOI Act.
The governor is required under state statute to select one of the FOIC’s nine commissioners to serve as chairman.
