Malloy announces re-election bid

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced his re-election bid Friday morning.

The one-term governor will seek a second term this November. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman will again join Malloy on his ticket.

Malloy announced his campaign immediately after the State Bond Commission meeting in Hartford. Moments later, his campaign Twitter account @DanMalloyCT repeated the announcement, becoming active for the first time in more than three years.

A slate of Republicans are seeking their party’s nomination, including Tom Foley, who lost the 2010 gubernatorial election by less than 1 percent of the vote. Other Republican potentials include State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, Avon attorney Martha Dean, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, former West Hartford council member Joe Visconti, and Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti.
