Malloy 2nd least popular governor in U.S.

Gov. Dannel Malloy is the second-least popular governor in the United States. His neighbor to the north, Mass. Gov. Charlie Baker, is the nation’s most popular state chief executive.

The survey, published by Morning Consult, a media and technology company, said Malloy had a job approval rating of 29 percent while 64 percent disapprove of his performance. The report cited the loss of jobs to Massachusetts. Malloy’s numbers make him the least popular Democratic governor.

The governor’s office did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback in Kansas, who the report said is embroiled in ongoing budget woes that followed large tax cuts, has the backing of only 26 percent of Kansans compared to 65 percent who said they did not approve of his job performance.

Morning Consult’s survey was conducted between January and May. The data was weighed using the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. Sample sizes varied from state to state based on their population.
