In a positive sign for malls’ continued rebound from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, an area mall is hosting a job fair to fill dozens of open retail positions.
The Westfield Trumbull mall has more than 60 vacancies which retailers within the shopping center plan to fill.
American Eagle, Ardene, Del Ray Trends, Forever 21, Michaels Jewelers, Pandora, Sports Fever and Zales are among the retailers hiring for a variety of positions, from sales associates to customer service specialists.
Interested applicants will be able to connect directly with retailers at the job fair.
It will take place at Westfield Trumbull mall, in the former Lord & Taylor court, 5065 Main St., Trumbull, on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from noon to 7 p.m.
The National Retail Federation, based in Washington D.C., announced earlier this month that national retail sales saw “solid growth” in June, increasing in most categories on a monthly basis and across the board on a yearly basis, a sign of continued recovery from the economic impact of the pandemic.
NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said, “Heading into the back-to-school season, we expect record sales as families purchase electronics, shoes and backpacks for in-person learning this year.”
Meanwhile, some businesses are having trouble filling available positions.
Ed Egee, NRF’s vice president of government relations and workforce development, said via email Tuesday that retailers and restaurants “are facing workforce shortages for a variety of reasons, including the extended unemployment benefits, reduced immigration, and inconsistent messaging about COVID-19.”
