Major proposed residential development to go before Westport’s Planning and Zoning next week

A proposal for a major mixed-use retail-residential development in Westport’s Saugatuck area is set to go before the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday.

Westport-based Roan Development Ventures plans to build a Hamlet by Saugatuck development that will feature 57 hotel rooms, 57 residential units and commercial space on a 3.38-acre site on the Saugatuck River, according to an application filed with the commission.

The residences will be contained in five, five-story buildings totaling 185,813 square feet of space, while the hotel rooms will be housed in three five-story buildings totaling 90,741 square feet, the application shows.

In total, the development would feature 10 buildings that would also house commercial space across 315,735 square feet of space. It would have 258 parking spaces.

“The Hamlet is uniquely positioned to serve as the center of waterfront living along Connecticut’s coastline,” the application said.

“Roan is offering the Town of Westport the opportunity to redevelop the integrated site as part of a cohesive master plan developed by one party with a mix of uses that will allow the integrated site to operate cohesively with, and without adverse impacts on, the remainder of Saugatuck.”
