Hoffman Auto Group has expanded its footprint outside of Connecticut for the first time.
On Thursday, the well-known auto group, based in East Hartford, acquired Burlington Subaru, Vermont’s top Subaru dealership, as well as its sister store, Burlington Hyundai.
Hoffman Auto said the change in ownership will be “seamless” and that many of the same employees will continue to work at the Burlington stores.
“We will work with our teams here to support what is already working and elevate it even further to give Vermont drivers the same high-touch service, transparency and trust that Hoffman has delivered for more than 100 years,” said Bradley Hoffman, chairman of Hoffman Auto.
The acquisition, which marks Hoffman Auto’s first expansion beyond Connecticut, is “a combination of strategic fit and personal connection,” the company said.
“We’ve long admired and respected the Subaru and Hyundai brands, and with our family’s deep ties to Vermont, this expansion is the right move,” said Hoffman East President Matthew Hoffman, who graduated from the University of Vermont.
His family grew up in the greater Burlington area.
Matthew Hoffman, along with his brother, Jonathan, and two cousins, Zachary and Joshua, are the fourth generation of Hoffmans to lead the 104-year-old, family-owned company.
Burlington Hyundai General Manager Eric Sansone will continue in his role. Hoffman Auto has named Gegam Sarkisian, a Vermont resident who has more than two decades of experience with the Subaru brand, to lead Burlington Subaru.
Hoffman Auto, founded in 1921 by brothers Israel and Barney Hoffman, operates 10 dealerships, representing 11 brands, along with two collision centers. Its Connecticut locations are in East Hartford, West Simsbury, Waterbury and New London.
