First Wind, Maine’s major wind farm developer, has opened its latest project in Down East Maine.
The Boston company held a ribbon-cutting Tuesday to mark the beginning of commercial operations at its 17-turbine expansion of the Stetson Wind project in Danforth, according to a company statement.
Work on Stetson Wind II began in November, creating 200 construction jobs. The first phase of Stetson Wind, a 38-turbine project, came online in January 2009. In total, the Stetson farm is an 83-megawatt facility.
Last November, Harvard University entered into a 15-year agreement to eventually buy 10 percent of its electricity from Stetson Wind II.
