Madison firm launches antimicrobial system for cannabis growers

Madison-based Precision X-Ray Inc. announced this week it has launched an antimicrobial X-ray system to fight mold growth in newly-harvested cannabis products.

The new system, called SteriRad, promises to kill microbes by using a cold decontamination process on harvested cannabis buds and plants without reducing levels of active ingredients like cannabinoids and terpenes.

Precision X-Ray, which has 20 years of experience manufacturing  biological X-Ray cabinet systems, said in a statement the new system uses a process “which does not produce heat that can adversely affect the quality of the final product.” The decontamination allows cannabis growers to meet regulatory requirements on product purity, the company said.

CEO Viktoriya Baytser said, “We are very excited to deploy this proven technology to growers worldwide, ensuring the safety and quality of their products.”

Director of Strategic Innovation Bill McLaughlin said, “SteriRad provides the cultivators with the peace of mind knowing that their premium products will pass the stringent microbial testing, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience for both medicinal and recreational cannabis consumers.”

Precision X-Ray is the largest global manufacturer of cabinet x-ray irradiation systems.

Originally based in North Branford, Precision X-Ray bought a 41,718-square-foot light industrial building on a 4-acre parcel at 14 New Rd. in Madison for $2.1 million in 2021 and relocated its operations amid growth.
