The life-science unit of Manchester-based Lydall Inc. has finished an expansion of its North Carolina plant to produce specialty packaging for the biotech and medical-device markets.
Charter Medical Ltd., in Winston-Salem, N.C., said its state-of-the-art facility will produce single-use medical bags and assemblies in sizes from 50 milliliters to 5,000 liters. One type of bag going to market in early 2010 is for storing frozen stem cells.
“These markets for single-use solutions continue to grow at double digit rates,” said Charter Medical President Peter Ferris.
Lydall CEO Dale Barnhart said Charter’s expansion, coupled with Lydall’s recent purchase of a Dutch producer of membranes used to deliver drugs via skin, reflects Lydall’s commitment to expand its life-science business.
