Manchester-based Lydall Inc. said it has expanded its product line with an insulating material that can make household ovens and water heaters and commercial boilers thermally more efficient.
The Lydall Performance Materials division’s Green Island plant outside Albany, N.Y. added three workers to a single shift to produce enough of its so-called needled fiber product for appliance and boiler manufacturers, a company official said.
With the new hires, the plant has 95 workers, said Patricia Blanc, the division’s marketing director.
Lydall also produces a thin version of the insulation commonly used to thermally shield microwave and toaster ovens.
“This is kind of a neat, new product,” she said.
Blanc declined to say how much Lydall invested to upgrade facilities and equipment to produce its new appLY Mat brand insulator.
Lydall specializes in making electrical, sound and thermal insulation, and air and fluid filters.
