Luxury West Hartford cinema nears debut with bar, dine-in options

A West Hartford movie theater temporarily closed for the last five months is set to reopen this week as a luxury, six-screen multiplex.

Operator Cinépolis USA, a Dallas-based subsidiary of Mexican movie chain Cinépolis, announced late Monday the revitalized 21,462-square-foot theater will debut Friday.

Cinépolis acquired the South Main Street theater, formerly known as Criterion Cinemas, in July 2016 in addition to three other theaters in New York and New Jersey.

Following a “multimillion-dollar” renovation, the renamed Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas will offer 359 reclining leather seats in six auditoriums and marks the group’s first dine-in cinema in the Northeast.

The venue will showcase an upscale lobby equipped with “gourmet” concessions, a TV and lounge seating for guests following shows, Cinépolis said. Alcohol including craft beer, specialty cocktails and wine is also expected to be served at a full bar after the theater secures a liquor license in the coming months, it said.

An in-theater waiter service will also allow moviegoers to order dine-in food by pushing a button on their seat or through the Cinépolis USA mobile app. The Cinépolis menu features foods such as burgers, hummus plates, edamame, quesadillas, salads, truffle flatbreads, and vegan and gluten-free options.

Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas will air movies everyday offering tickets ranging from $7 to $12 for adults, $7 to $9 for children and discounted $7 tickets on Tuesdays. Seating can be reserved on the Cinépolis USA website.

In total, Cinépolis USA operates 26 luxury and premium theaters across the country, and its parent, Mexico-based Cinépolis, says it’s the second largest movie theater circuit in terms of audience operating 738 cinema complexes in 17 countries.
