Women’s athletic apparel retailer Lululemon will open a new store in New Haven’s Broadway shopping district this summer.
The Vancouver, Canada-headquartered retailer will occupy a 5,000-square-foot storefront next door to outdoor retailer Patagonia. The space, which is managed by Yale University Properties, is currently vacant.
An opening date has yet to be set.
Lululemon joins the growing influx of national retailers to the Broadway shopping district. These include, in addition to Patagonia, J. Crew, L.L. Bean and Gant. New Haven is also said to be the smallest metropolitan market with an Apple store, also on a Broadway strip once dominated by local retailers and eateries such as Campus Custos, the Educated Burgher and the late, lamented Yankee Doodle across the street.
Lululemon is a self-styled yoga-inspired athletic apparel company (or, as the company calls it, “athletica”). It was founded in 1998 and became a publicly traded company in 2007.
