Connecticut legislators are scheduled to consider a proposal to reduce electricity rates for senior citizens with electric heat, The Associated Press reports.
The General Assembly’s energy and technology committee has scheduled a hearing for Thursday to consider the legislation.
Sen. Rob Kane and Rep. Arthur O’Neill heard complaints from senior citizens in Southbury who complained about a monthly charge on electric bills added by the Legislature last year to pay for state borrowing.
The proposed legislation would require a study of a special electric rate for Connecticut residents 55 and older who have electric heat.
Kane did not have an estimate of how much revenue would be lost if the legislation is enacted.
