Clifford Johnson, executive director of the Community Child Guidance Clinic in Manchester, will retire July 1 after 47 years at the clinic.
The clinic serves more than 1,000 children a year and provides mental health services to children and families in 14 towns surrounding Manchester.
Johnson, who is the second executive director in the clinic’s 58-year history, served as director for the past 25 years. He succeeded Dr. Tanash Atoynatan, who was the clinic’s first full-time director for 33 years after the clinic opened in 1958.
During Johnson’s tenure, the clinic, at 317 North Main St., purchased a new building at 1075 Tolland Turnpike and developed more than 20 programs serving children and families in the Manchester area employing 100-plus people.
