Jacob G. Padrón will conclude his tenure as artistic director of Long Wharf Theatre following the 2025–26 season, the New Haven-based company announced Thursday.
Padrón, who joined the theatre in 2019, led the nonprofit through a period of change that included adopting a new producing model, staging performances in multiple venues, and expanding community partnerships.
Under his leadership, Long Wharf secured a $1 million Mellon Foundation grant to support equity and artistic programming, and was recognized by the National Theatre Conference, which named him Person of the Year.
The company said two-thirds of its audience in the past year were first-time attendees, a 44% increase from the prior year.
Board Chair Jenny Carrillo praised Padrón’s leadership, while Managing Director Meredith Suttles said she plans to continue building on his work. Padrón will remain in his role through the end of next season to support a leadership transition.
