For its first production after leaving its longtime Sargent Drive home, the Long Wharf Theatre will stage performances of a new play in Hamden, the theater announced this week.
“Live From the Edge” will be staged at the Space Ballroom at 295 Treadwell St., a live music venue in a business park off of Dixwell Avenue. The new show — created by UNIVERSES, a National Theater Company of Color led by founders and Artistic Directors Steven and Mildred Ruiz-Sapp — debuts on April 27.Â
Long Wharf Theatre Artistic Director Jacob G. Padrón said, “Putting artists in the driver’s seat and partnering with an iconic local venue like Space Ballroom – in a dynamic central location that’s accessible to our audiences – is emblematic of everything that we hope the future of Long Wharf Theatre will represent.”
Tickets for the new show go on sale for theater members on Jan. 9 and for the general public on Jan. 30.
The production is the first staged by Long Wharf Theatre since it left its space at 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven after announcing it was seeking to perform in new ways and in nontraditional venues.Â
“This production provides our community the first glimpse of how Long Wharf Theatre aspires to be a theater of possibility with this new model,” PadrĂłn said.Â
