Long Wharf Theatre has appointed Meredith Suttles as its new managing director.
Suttles, an arts executive with more than 20 years of experience in theater management, fundraising and organizational strategy, most recently worked as an associate consultant with A.D. Hamingson & Associates, where she led advancement planning for Williamstown Theatre Festival and other cultural organizations.
During the pandemic, she served as managing director of Marin Theatre Company in California, and previously held leadership roles at TheaterWorksUSA, Soho Repertory Theatre and The Public Theater in New York City.
Long Wharf leaders said Suttles’ background in strengthening operations and fostering community partnerships makes her well-suited to advance the theater’s “without walls” model. Adopted in 2022, the approach shifted the company away from a permanent stage to producing shows in multiple venues across Greater New Haven.
In the past season, the New Haven theater said it recorded a 44% increase in year-over-year attendance, with two-thirds of ticket buyers attending for the first time.
