Long Island Sound Blue Plan bill passes legislature

The Connecticut General Assembly has passed legislation that will create the Long Island Sound Blue Plan, an effort to develop a coordinated strategy toward use of the Sound’s waters and submerged land.

The House unanimously approved the measure on Earth Day. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who introduced the legislation, is expected to sign it into law.

The Blue Plan legislation calls on the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and UConn to meet with relevant state agencies, academic institutions, and stakeholders to compile a list of the natural and human resources along the Sound, and then develop a plan to guide future uses of the Sound.

The plan is due to the legislature in a year.
