Maryland-based Lockheed Martin has appointed Ronald T. Rand as its senior vice president for communications, company officials said.
On May 1 Rand will succeed Dennis R. Boxx who retired earlier this month, according to a statement from Lockheed Martin Chairman, President, and CEO Robert Stevens.
Rand, of Glastonbury, was East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney’s vice president for communications, where he headed the company’s worldwide internal and external communications, including public relations, employee communications, advertising and branding, public affairs, and communications in support of sales and marketing, Stevens said.
“Ron Rand brings a wealth of talent and experience to Lockheed Martin, and we are pleased to have him on our team,” he said.
“We are also deeply appreciative of Dennis Boxx’s countless contributions to the success of our company during his 10-year tenure,” Stevens said. “He has made immeasurable contributions to the corporation, and I am most grateful for his service.”
Rand is a retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
Rand graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1971, and began his career as an Air Force motion picture producer and director. He then went on to command audiovisual detachments at Nakhon Phanom and Korat Royal Thai air force bases, according to his Air Force biography.
After a tour as chief of plans at the Air Force Orientation Group, he completed graduate studies at Boston University, and then served at the Pentagon as spokesman for Air Force space, intelligence, and advanced technology programs, and as the public affairs adviser to the Undersecretary of the Air Force.
Pratt officials did not return a request for comment today, and did not immediately name a successor to Rand.
