Location announced for new Women’s Business Center in downtown Hartford

The Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC) launched its newest women’s business center in Hartford on Monday morning.

The center is located at 190 Trumbull St., known as The Brownstone Building, in a 2,500-square-foot space (Suite 201), which was recently renovated.

The Hartford location is one of five Women’s Business Centers under the umbrella of the Women’s Business Development Council. The others are in Stamford, New Haven, New London and Waterbury.

Women’s Business Centers offer one-on-one counseling, training, networking, workshops, technical assistance and mentoring to women entrepreneurs.

“While WBDC has been supporting women-owned businesses in the Greater Hartford region throughout our nearly 30 years, we are thrilled to now have a physical presence in the capital city, providing us with an opportunity to be an integral part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region,” said WBDC CEO Fran Pastore.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) provided a three-year, $150,000 grant to establish the new center in Hartford.

SBA recently said its loans to women-owned businesses are up 70%, and that women are starting businesses across industries at higher rates than their male counterparts.

More than $5 billion has been loaned to women-owned businesses in FY 2023, a 61% increase, according to the SBA.
