Local business owner receives 2014 Ashford Business of the Year Award

Brian Savulis, owner and president of Yeagle Technology, has won the Ashford Business of the Year Award from the Windham Chamber of Commerce.

The award is presented annually to an Ashford business that has significantly contributed to its community. Savulis purchased YTI, an Ashford-based vacuum systems company, in 2005 and has overseen its expansion beyond field service to include customization of existing vacuum equipment and building of new systems.

In that time the company has also seen significant growth in sales, employees, and national clients.

Robinson + Cole lawyer named ‘40 Women for the Next 40 Years’

The Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund honored 40 women who will build future opportunities for other women in the state as part of its special project “40 Women for the Next 40 Years.” Robinson+Cole’s Britt-Marie K. Cole-Johnson was among the women selected for this honor.

As an associate, Cole-Johnson focuses her practice on public and private sector labor and employment law and is also active in firm initiatives, serving on the firm’s diversity committee and previously chairing the associates’ council.

Nursing director receives excellence award from natl. assoc.

The Institute of Living’s Director of Nursing, Ellen W. Blair, has been chosen to receive the Excellence in Practice Award from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.

The award recognizes an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who has made significant contributions to psychiatric mental health nursing practice throughout their career. Blair has over 30 years of experience in her field, and has trained future nurses as a clinical psychiatric nurse instructor at both the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford and Capital Community College in Hartford.

MDC’s Jefferson receives national award from U.S. EPA

Mike Jefferson, the Metropolitan District Commission’s diversity manager, was presented with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Administrator’s Award for outstanding state, local or tribal office performance achievement.

Jefferson was honored for his efforts in the development of local small business, minority and women-owned business enterprises for participation in MDC’s $2.1 billion Clean Water Project. The MDC is a nonprofit municipal corporation located throughout the state that provides water, sewer and household hazardous waste collection services to its member municipalities.
