Liuzzi Cheese leases Hamden warehouse

A longtime Italian cheesemaker has leased an 8,000-square-foot warehouse at 2781 State St. in Hamden.

Liuzzi Cheese is a family-owned, multi-generation manufacturer which makes an array of cheese products, from mozzarella to ricotta to dry aged cheeses.

The business has a store in North Haven, Liuzzi Gourmet Food Market, and manufacturing operations in Hamden.

Joel Nesson, senior commercial advisor with Press/Cuozzo Commercial Services in Hamden, represented the business in the deal.

According to Press/Cuozzo, the short-term lease is valued at $51,000, and the transaction was finalized Feb. 15. The initial term is for one year, with an option to extend.

The business plans to keep its existing manufacturing space in Hamden, on Rossotto Drive, but needed more storage room for product  packaging materials, Nesson said.

Anthony Annunziato, an agent with Coldwell Banker Realty, represented the landlord, K&M Brothers LLC.

Liuzzi Cheese’s website indicates that the company goes back five generations. Its founder, Pasquale (Lino) Liuzzi came to the United States nearly five decades ago, and dreamed of establishing his own business. He joined forces with his brother Nicola to form Liuzzi Cheese. It has expanded over the years, and its products are available in supermarkets.

The North Haven market, founded in 1981, sells not only cheese, but groceries, deli foods and sandwiches. It also provides catering services.
