Scammers are posing as job recruiters on LinkedIn to collect personal information on users, including those in Connecticut, according to the state chapter of the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB said the scammers are creating fake profiles and sending messages to users directing them to websites that ask for personal information under the guide of an employment application.
That information can sometimes be used to steal someone’s identity. Some of the sites have asked for social security numbers, which legitimate employers don’t collect until a hire is made.
The BBB said other indications that a recruiter may be fraudulent include: They ask for up-front payment for job training; they refuse to speak on the phone.
