Lincoln Financial Group, with Hartford operations, has given a $1 million grant to boost science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) literacy among students in Connecticut and other states, authorities say.
Lincoln Financial Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Philadelphia insurer also know as Lincoln National Corp., announced the grant Monday to Teach For America, an Indiana nonprofit.
Teach For America recruits, trains and supports college graduates and professionals who commit to teach for two years in low-income urban and rural public school systems.
About a third of Teach For America instructors teach STEM courses, authorities say.
