Lights Out Hartford looks to spread blackout

The energy savings event Lights out Hartford in its second year wants to expand beyond a small group of high profile buildings to get obtain more broad community participation.

In the inaugural event on April 20, the owners of The Phoenix’s Boat Buildings, Travelers Plaza, Connecticut Science Center, the Aetna campus, 1 State Street, and 33 Elm St. shut off their lights at 10:15 p.m. as a dramatic effect to show the environmental benefits of reducing energy consumption at 1.75 million square feet of commercial real estate.

For this year’s event on April 25, the group will host a charity networking event at the Connecticut Science Center called Rebuilding Together Hartford, which benefits low-income homeowners.
