Lighting change saves Stafford $410K

Stafford will save $410,000 with new energy-efficient lighting systems presented Monday at many of the town’s public facilities.

With funding from the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Stafford installed new lighting system at five area school and the Stafford Public Library.

The new energy efficient LED lighting is expected to shave 75 percent off the facilities’ electricity costs, with a lifetime savings of $410,000.

“Stafford is setting a tremendous example for other communities,” said Congressman Joe Courtney, D-CT, in a press release. “By taking action, the town will reduce electricity costs by $18,000 per year – a savings they can pass along to taxpayers.  These are impressive results and proof we need not wait for technological advancements to invest in energy efficiency.”
