She’s worked behind-the-scenes in the entertainment industry and rubbed elbows with Hollywood stars.
But Kate Anderson says she’s just as happy now as a senior account executive at Cronin and Co. in Glastonbury, a close-knit public relations firm that has her handling campaigns for everything from hospitals to dairies.
Anderson, 30, studied political science and business at Marymount College, where she graduated in 2000.
A senior-year internship at Disney launched her career in publicity and promotions. Two weeks after graduation, she followed her internship coordinator to a position at Universal Pictures in New York City, where she became East Coast publicity and promotions coordinator.
That new job brought Anderson in touch with different demographic groups testing how movies might do in theaters.
“Every day coming into work was different because you might be working with four different movies that target four different groups of people and personalities,” she said. “It was rewarding, but not your general nine-to-five job.”
Seven years later, Anderson earned a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix and decided she’d had enough with the entertainment industry.
During her job interview at Cronin and Co., Anderson sensed that the company was a place where she could get to know her co-workers well.
“It was a no-brainer for me,” said Anderson.
As she looks back on her career, Anderson reflects about her smooth transition to Cronin.
“For me, it was never about who I was meeting. It was about the quality of the work I was doing,” she said.
Now Anderson’s new clients can get that Hollywood treatment.
