Legislature orders study on public retirement plan

The state legislature has allocated $400,000 to conduct a study weighing the pros and cons of a state-run retirement plan for low-wage workers, the Associated Press reported.

House Majority Leader Joseph Aresimowicz told the AP that the measure represents a compromise between the unions that support the legislation and the financial services companies that oppose it, saying it would be costly and unnecessary.

A similar bill was proposed last legislative session.
