The first major apartment development in Hartford’s Bushnell South neighborhood has begun leasing.
Norwalk-based Spinnaker Real Estate Partners said it has begun leasing apartments in the annex building of its 55 Elm Club property. Spinnaker for several years has been redeveloping two antique former state office buildings at 55 Elm St. into 164 apartments as part of a $66 million project.
The development includes a main building, called The 55 Elm Club, which can be seen directly from Bushnell Park and Pulaski Circle, and an annex building named The Vault.
Spinnaker describes the property as offering a unique “hotel-like living option.”

Residents can choose from studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Some larger, luxury units in the main building will feature expansive ceilings and large windows, while all residents will have access to a range of amenities, including a fitness center, coworking offices, billiards room, media/podcast rooms, yoga studio, library, in-unit laundry, energy-efficient appliances and pet-friendly policies.
Additionally, an upscale restaurant concept will be located directly off the lobby of the main building, and a brewery or similar venue in the annex building, Spinnaker said.
There will even be a secret speakeasy lounge room, according to Spinnaker.
According to Apartments.com, monthly rents will range from $1,420 for a studio to $3,560 for a three-bedroom unit. Apartment units will range in size from 396 square feet to 1,487 square feet.
The first tenants have already moved into the annex building.
Spinnaker did say it will make additional units available in the main building through the fall and end of the year. All units are planned to be available before the new year, the developer said.
Spinnaker has additional development plans in the Bushnell South area.
