Cox Communications recently awarded $133,000 in charitable grants to organizations in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Connecticut grant recipients included Educational Resources for Children, the Village for Families and Children Inc. and the Connecticut Science Center, which provide educational activities supporting youth development.
Recipients were selected by a group of elected officials, community partners and business leaders for their focus on after-school programming, including science, technology, engineering, and math curricula for middle school children.
The grants will support the Village’s extended day treatment, a therapeutic program for children with social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders.

Achieve Hartford! has been awarded a $100,000 grant by Aetna to provide support for one of their three re-designed program strategies, Building Coalitions and Community Engagement.
The grant will allow Achieve Hartford! to execute strong partnership work in the community that supports parent engagement, personalized learning, college and career readiness and grade-level reading.

The Comcast Foundation has awarded $53,000 in scholarships to 44 Connecticut high school seniors through its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.
The program recognizes students’ leadership skills, academic achievement and commitment to community service.
Since the program’s inception, more than $21.6 million in scholarship money has been presented to more than 21,000 scholarship winners nationwide.Â

Xavier High School has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Maximilian E. and Marion O. Hoffman Foundation Inc. to provide funding for the school’s expansion of a fine arts wing.
One of the new music practice rooms will be named for the Hoffman Foundation in recognition of its contribution.
The Hoffman Foundation is headquartered in West Hartford and donates to groups, mostly in Connecticut, that further education, medicine and the arts.
