A house built in 1870 as a single family home is the new headquarters for a southern Connecticut law firm.
Butler Tibbetts, which has approximately a dozen attorneys, recently opened a new office in a house at 181 Old Post Rd., in the Southport section of Fairfield.
It is the second Connecticut office for the firm, which also has offices in Darien and New York City, which will remain open.
The house was purchased in May for $1.5 million. The new owner is listed as Montauk Mocha LLC of 181 Old Post Rd., Southport. Timothy Butler, the law firm’s managing partner, is listed as Montauk Mocha’s principal.
The firm represents clients ranging from individuals to large healthcare companies. It handles litigation, business, health care, family, real estate and estate planning matters.
According to the firm, the expansion and relocation of its headquarters are part of its long-term regional growth strategy to build capacity. Lawyers, clients and staff are returning to the office more often, following several months of remote operations due to the pandemic.
Butler said the firm’s team is “eager to return to the office.”
“We wanted to welcome everyone back with a more relaxed and less traditional working environment in keeping with our firm culture,” Butler said.
The Southport house has been renovated, and offers a combination of private, communal and amenity spaces. It features some open work areas and “war rooms” for attorneys to collaborate and share ideas.
The firm indicated it is planning to hire new attorneys and to open a new office in Philadelphia also.
