Larson to introduce NAT GAS Act

Congressman John Larson, D-CT, will introduce his NAT GAS Act on Wednesday, calling for an increase in the production of vehicles powered by natural gas.

The New Alternative Transportation to Give American Solutions, or NAT GAS, Act provides tax credits and regulatory changes to induce manufacturers to produce more vehicles powered by either liquefied natural gas or compress natural gas.

Larson said natural gas is cheaper, more plentiful than oil and readily available from domestic sources. Switching away from gasoline-powered cars gives the country relief from volatile oil prices.

The NAT GAS Act has bipartisan support in the House of Representatives, including from Congressman John Sullivan, R-OK, and Kevin Brady, R-TX. President Barack Obama supports the bill, as well. The legislation had broad bipartisan support last year, but it failed to be called for a vote on the House floor.
