Lamont lifts commercial truck ban, closes state offices as winter storm cleanup continues

Gov. Ned Lamont lifted the emergency order banning commercial vehicles from Connecticut’s limited access highways at 6:30 a.m. Monday while closing executive branch state office buildings to the public as cleanup continues from a major winter storm.

The governor directed Level 2 executive branch employees not to report to work Monday, while Level 1 employees — those in roles previously designated as essential — are reporting to work as scheduled or directed.

Meantime, Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said he would lift the city’s snow parking ban at 1 p.m. Monday.

Despite ending the commercial truck restriction, Lamont urged all motorists to avoid driving Monday if possible and exercise extreme caution if travel is necessary as plow crews continue clearing snow and ice from roadways.

“This winter weather event is still not over, and we are strongly encouraging everyone to stay off the roads on Monday if you can, not only for your own safety and the safety of others but also so plow crews have room to clear the roads of snow and ice,” Lamont said. “Out of an abundance of caution, all level 2 executive branch state employees should stay home on Monday.”

The governor had enacted the commercial vehicle prohibition as the winter storm moved through Connecticut Sunday, restricting trucks from using the state’s highways during the most severe conditions.

Lingering light snowfall is expected to continue throughout Monday, according to the governor’s office.

The storm-related closure directive applies to executive branch offices. Decisions regarding operations of judicial and legislative branch offices are made by leaders of those respective branches.
