Lamont launches reporting tool for businesses, others affected by federal cuts

Businesses, nonprofits and municipalities that have been adversely affected by recent actions taken by the federal government now have a way to report those effects to the state.

Gov. Ned Lamont on Wednesday encouraged any entity to report the effects of federal actions to the state so it can be compiled into a central database and provide lawmakers with a better understanding of how federal directives are affecting various groups, geographical regions and sectors of the economy.

To facilitate this, Lamont said the state has launched an online reporting tool, which can be accessed by visiting ct.gov/fedimpact. The site was not functioning Wednesday morning.

To use the website, businesses, nonprofits and municipalities will need to create a login and then answer a series of questions to report any effects of federal directives.

Examples of items that are encouraged to be reported include pauses, cancelations and reductions in federal funding; reductions in employment; and impacts from tariffs. The information collected will be shared with the relevant state agencies, which will use the data to help inform the state’s response.

Lamont said the website “is intended to shed a light on how these changes from the federal government are affecting people who live, work, and learn in Connecticut.”

He added that submitting the data is purely voluntary, “but I think everyone understands the importance of sharing this information so that we can better understand what exactly is happening and formulate a response on the state and local levels.”

Comptroller Sean Scanlon said that businesses and other entities that use the tool will help to “ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information on the impact funding cuts and freezes are having on Connecticut.”

State officials added that any information provided should be considered public information and may be released by the state to interested parties. They added that the reporting tool serves only to ensure “situational awareness” to state officials, and no commitments of state action in response to these issues submitted is expressed or implied.
