The former board chair of the University of Connecticut’s philanthropic arm has been tapped to serve as chair of UConn’s board of trustees, Gov. Ned Lamont announced Thursday.

Dan Toscano, a Darien resident who previously chaired the UConn Foundation and currently works as managing director of global leveraged finance at Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc., will leave his seat on the foundation’s board, on which he served for 11 years, in order to take the higher-profile board of trustees seat, Lamont said.
“A graduate of UConn himself, Dan has gone on to have an incredibly successful business career, helping manage one of the world’s largest financial services firms, all while continuing to maintain strong connections to his home state of Connecticut and his alma mater,” Lamont said in a statement.
On the UConn Foundation’s board, Toscano oversaw a three-year fundraising haul of $230 million, between 2015 and 2017, and served on the search committees that recently selected Thomas Katsouleas to be UConn’s president and Scott Roberts to be the chief executive of the UConn Foundation.
In addition to graduating from UConn in 1987, one of Toscano’s sons currently attends the university, Lamont said.
In a statement, Toscano said he was humbled to be appointed chair of the UConn board of trustees, and praised the state’s investments in the university over the past decade, saying they pay off for the state as a whole.
“As Connecticut’s flagship university and a top research institution, UConn has the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the economic recovery of Connecticut,” Toscano’s statement said.
