Lamont announces events to mark nation’s 250th anniversary

The state will mark the 250th anniversary of American independence this year with a long list of events as part of CT250, the governor’s office announced Tuesday.

Announced during a news conference at the historic Old State House in Hartford, CT250 will feature a series of events, immersive experiences, educational programs and community-driven celebrations, officials said.

The events scheduled across Connecticut include three on July 4, with a nationwide bell ringing at 2 p.m., a recommitment ceremony at the state Capitol and Connecticut State Library featuring a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, and a free celebration from noon to 10 p.m. in Bushnell Park in Hartford that is expected to draw more than 50,000 people and will feature a concert by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the region’s largest fireworks display.

Additional programming will unfold statewide, including cultural celebrations, historical exhibits and community-led events. A calendar of events is available at 250inCT.com.

“We invite all residents and visitors to join us in reflection, conversation and celebration as we look both back and forward together,” Merrill said.
