Labor concessions in Conn. await union vote

Rank-and-file members of Connecticut’s 13 state employee unions will vote over the next couple weeks on a tentative agreement to provide more than $700 million in concessions to help cover the state’s budget deficit.

Leaders of each union voted Friday to recommend the tentative agreement reached with Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s administration.

SEBAC represents about 50,000 workers, the vast majority of state employees.

Details of the proposal are not yet being released. SEBAC says it includes changes in wages and health insurance, a retirement incentive program and other givebacks. There would be savings in this fiscal year and over the next two years.
