Kuan to direct Hartford Symphony

Carolyn Kuan is taking over as music director of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra.

Kuan is scheduled to address HSO musicians, staff, board members and major donors at a 1 p.m. reception in the Great Hall at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts.

Kuan signed a three-year contract to run the 68-year-old symphony full time, beginning with its 2011-2012 season that begins in September.

She succeeds Edward Cumming, who has served as music director since fall 2002 and ends his HSO tenure this June.
