What do you do? My overall responsibilities include conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to foundation, corporate and government sources, which helps to fund nine Club sites throughout Hartford. With an in-depth knowledge of the Club programs and history, having previously been a Club Unit Director, I write and manage proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and submit reports for all existing grant-funded projects.

What do you want to be doing in 10 years? In 10 years, I will be in a position of service to others, using my leadership abilities to positively impact the lives of those who are unable to advocate for themselves. Even more importantly, in that time both of my children will be in their teenage years, and my primary focus is to be the motivator who will lead them to become productive citizens who will make a difference in this world. I feel as though this is my calling; that my steps have already been ordered and I will be obedient in following.

What is your biggest strength? Interpersonal and communication skills, as well as empathy are my biggest strengths. It is because of these skills that I am able to find fulfillment through interacting with and caring about others.

Where do you go for new ideas? I choose prayer as my first source of guidance. I am also an avid researcher who has a constant thirst for knowledge, and I also consult with trusted family members when searching for new ideas.

What is the best advice you received? The best advice I have received comes from my aunt who once told me, “Everyone you ever meet in this life, you will meet for a reason. You need everyone in some capacity to help shape you into the person you are to become, so don’t ever take anyone for granted and don’t burn any bridges.”

What service or charitable cause has your attention? The Boys & Girls Club movement is certainly a charitable cause that has my attention, and I am blessed to be a steward of the community through this organization. I am also passionate about causes which provide a voice for the voiceless, and those which advocate for others who cannot for themselves.
