Kovalich on juvenile diabetes board

Jill Kovalich, Connecticut marketing manager for accounting and consulting firm Marcum LLP, was recently appointed to a two-year term on the board of directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Board-Greater New Haven Chapter.

Byrnes named to March of Dimes board

Mia Byrnes, director of operations for Cornerstone Restaurant Group, was recently appointed to the board of directors for the March of Dimes-Connecticut Chapter Greater Connecticut Division. Byrnes recently served as chair of March for Babies in Mystic, the March of Dimes largest annual fundraiser. The Mystic event, one of nine around the state, raised more than $130,000.

Three awarded for hospitality efforts

Three Connecticut residents were recently honored by the Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau for the impact they have had on the hospitality industry. The awardees included: Robert Martino, Updike, Kelly and Spellacy, P.C., Founders Award for excellence in hospitality; Neletta Cochrane, CTTransit, Volunteer of the Year; and Jay Sloves, Elkison & Sloves, 2012 Thomas J. Shortell Memorial Award for excellence in sports.

Murtha Cullina attorney awarded

The Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section recently presented Michael D. Goldfarb, an attorney with Murtha Cullina LLP, with the “Star of the Year Award” in recognition of his service to the bar. During the past year, Goldfarb served as the director of government relations for the Young Lawyers Section. In that role, he implemented a new event series, “Conversations with the Government,” which is designed to give members exclusive opportunities to interact with government leaders.

Pert associates contribute to new book

Three associates with Farmington’s The Pert Group — Gigi Ryan, Jim Rook and Efim Shvartsburg — are contributing authors for the just-published, “Product Innovation Toolbox: A Field Guide to Consumer Understanding and Research.” Ryan, executive vice president and principal, and Rook, a senior consultant, provided insights on how to leverage research partners. Shvartsburg, vice president, contributed benefit hierarchy analysis information for a section on research tools that help clarify consumer values.

Belcher new construction group president

Zoe Belcher, a licensed geologist and environmental professional, has been voted president of the Professional Women in Construction-CT Chapter, where she has served as vice president for the past two seasons.

CT Business HOF announces inductees

The Connecticut Business Hall Of Fame recently announced its induction class, which includes Chris White, Life Publications, West Hartford; Joseph DeFeo, Juran Institute, Southbury; Mark Griffin, Windsor Federal Savings, Windsor; YoCrunch Yogurt Co., Naugatuck; and Carter Morse & Mathias, Southport.

Milford’s Eastern Computer Exchange, Inc., a technology integration solution provider, was recently honored as the partner of the year by Virtual Instruments, a provider of virtual infrastructure optimization solutions.
