KeyBank backs federal Equality Act

KeyBank has joined the Business Coalition for the Equality Act. Launched by the Human Rights Campaign, the group is a confederation of businesses that support the Equality Act.

The Equality Act is a bill before the U.S. Congress that would amend the 1965 Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination against LGBT people across significant areas of life, including employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs and jury service.

The act was introduced in both houses of Congress in March of this year. It passed the House of Representatives on May 17 and is presently awaiting consideration in the Senate.

“We are proud to stand with the Human Rights Campaign as supporters of the Equality Act,” said Beth Mooney, KeyBank’s chairman and CEO. “Our support of the campaign aligns with KeyBank’s longstanding commitment to building a diverse and inclusive space where employees can bring their best and authentic selves to work. Being inclusive is the right thing to do for our employees, our clients and our communities.”
