Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Connecticut construction partnership KBE Ventures $51.5 million to build a new Army Reserve center in Middletown.
The corps said that it gave the contract to KBE Ventures, a partnership of Farmington-based KBE Building Corp. and Derita Construction Co. of Middletown. KBE was formerly known as Konover Construction.
The new center will be built at Cucia Park, a 40-acre site owned by the city. The plans had faced opposition when officials were proposing another site in the city that was considered environmentally sensitive.
Plans call for a 164,000-square-foot training facility with areas for administration, education, a weapons simulator and physical fitness for four Army Reserve units and six Connecticut Army National Guard units. (AP)
