KBE completes N.Y. hospital expansion

Farmington’s KBE Building Corp. announced the completion of an $80 million expansion of a New York hospital.

The commercial construction company said St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, N.Y., now has a new 73,000-square-foot surgical suite with 15 operating rooms, a new 12,100-square-foot central sterile unit and an expanded post-anesthesia care unit.

The surgical suite was originally slated to open in September, but KBE said it completed the job early and at 3 percent under the guaranteed maximum contract price.

The new areas of the 431-bed hospital officially opened in June. The work represents the first phase of the overall expansion, according to KBE, which is working with general contractor Hayner Hoyt Corp. of Syracuse.

Subsequent work will include solar panels, energy-conserving systems, a greenway park and other features.
