KBE Building, subcontractors hit target at Scouts’ camp

The Boy Scouts at Camp Workcoeman in New Hartford have a new rifle range, thanks to KBE Building Corp. and a number of its subcontractors.

In February 2011, the camp’s 12-foot by 40-foot rifle range collapsed under heavy snowfall. The new rifle range was funded in part by a $10,000 donation from KBE Building. The balance of the funding came from an insurance claim payment; a donation from MK Construction of $1500 in manpower and materials; volunteers from Castle Concrete, Xenelis Construction, and Richard Corporation; equipment use provided by Elite Construction Rentals; framing materials provided by Sanford and Hawley; and a National Rifle Association (NRA) grant of $4,800.

Established in 1924, Camp Workcoeman is one of the oldest operating Boy Scout camps in the country. The camp is open year-round, and typically serves over 1,300 Scouts in the summer seasons.

Webster Bank is sponsoring the newest exhibit at America’s oldest public museum — Medieval to Monet: French Paintings in the Wadsworth Atheneum.

Works by Claude, Boucher, Ingres, Delacroix, Monet, Renoir, and Gauguin will be featured through Jan. 27.

“Webster is pleased to help showcase these exceptional French paintings, together for the first time,” said Bob Annon, regional president for northern Connecticut and Springfield, Mass., for Webster Bank. “It is a unique opportunity to view 700 years of French painting and once again demonstrates how Hartford is a cultural hub and how the Arts are an economic driver for the city, region, and state.”

Susan L. Talbott, director and CEO of the Wadsworth Atheneum, agrees. “Highlighting the Wadsworth’s extraordinary holdings of French paintings, this exhibition presents a unique opportunity to trace the development of one of the country’s great collections,” she said.

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive catalogue; public programs including lectures on Impressionism and French painting; as well as gallery talks and tours.

Webster also sponsored Monet’s Water Lilies: An Artist’s Obsession in 2011.

Governance webinar Oct. 31

Senior Living Business Interactive in Norwalk will be hosting a webcast Oct. 31 addressing legal problems nonprofit boards can avoid.

Increased litigation against senior living providers and senior care facilities poses a financial risk to those organizations and in certain cases, exposes board members to claims of personal liability. What conduct/actions/decisions are appropriate for board members and what might make them — and the organization — vulnerable? How do you protect the organization’s assets? Against what types of risk must the board — and top management — protect the organization? Our panel of experts will shed light on these issues and explain how your board — and your organization — can set policies that effectively mitigate risk.

The moderator of the webcast will be Deborah Cloud, vice president and senior editor at Leading Age. Panelists include: Karla Dreisbach, senior director of compliance, Peace Church Compliance Program; Joseph Hasson, partner, Ungaretti & Harris LLP; Pamela Kaufmann, partner, Hanson Bridgett LLP; and Rick Stiffney, president and CEO, Mennonite Health Services Alliance.
